- Sustainability
IR (Polyisoprene Rubber) is an isoprene polymer, similar to natural rubber, and a candidate material that could be used as an alternative to natural rubber under the EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR). It is an industrially manufactured synthetic rubber, which makes it more stable in terms of quality compared with natural rubber. Furthermore, unlike natural rubber, IR is a white material that can be blended with other light-colored rubbers.
Zeon can supply an ISCC PLUS-certified IR as a sustainable product through the mass balance approach.
Characteristics
- Alternative to Natural Rubber
- IR is an isoprene polymer so similar to natural rubber that it can potentially replace it.
- Light-Colored Rubber
- IR is a white material, which supports a more flexible color scheme, allowing for the production of verious types of light-colored rubber.
- Sustainable Product (ISCC PLUS-Certified)
- Zeon can supply an ISCC PLUS-certified IR through the mass balance approach by procuring sustainable C5 fractions made from bio-naphtha to manufacture the synthetic rubber.
- Development of Bio-Isoprene Monomers
- Zeon is currently working to develop and commercialize bio-isoprene monomers, which we plan to utilize as a raw material for IR.
